Johnny Came Home

This page concerns my as-yet-unpublished science fiction super hero novel, Johnny Came Home.

The story came about because WordPress was once again promoting National Novel Writing Month. Basically, the NaNoWriMo challenge is to write throughout November, each day, until you’ve got a 175-page, 50,000-word novel, which has to be verified by NaNoWriMo.org by November 30th to qualify.

I took up the challenge because I wanted to know if this sort of hour a day approach can actually work. To be honest, sometimes it was more than an hour a day. Sometimes it was less, but usually it was a little more. I think it was more the idea of setting aside a time to write each day – and having an actual deadline that makes it work!

My goal was 50K. I wrote 54K, but I had to stay up until 3am on the night befre the deadline and spend a good portion of the final day putting in 2 day total of 9,000 whopping words in all to do so! Ergo, it wasn’t easy, but it was extremely gratifying.

Now, all I need is sleep and a publisher!

This novel, written as a serial over the month of November 2008, is NOT the one I’ve been working on for the last 5 years [Has it really been that long! Ech! Time to finish that monster!], because the NaNo challenge was to write a new work completely from scratch. [I am aware that there were people who cheated. I wasn't one of them. Nyah!]

Originally, the entire work, entitled Johnny Came Home, was available online, but, well, God Bless Capitalism, why would anyone buy the loaf when they can get free slices. I hope to get it published and available for sale in the near future!

Anyway…

John Lazarus and his friend Weasel return to Johnny’s hometown on Halloween day in search of answers. His answers and the reasons for his strange abilities might be locked away in the burnt-out shell of his old house, in the labs of Titan BioTech or in the advise of a local preacher who knows more than he should.
