Very much a sequel to Unwrapping the Pharaohs, David Down’s Unveiling the Kings of Israel demonstrates that “far from being a book of myths, the Bible is an amazing historical record and each year, more archaeological discoveries continue to prove its validity and significance.

This book covers much more than the kings of Israel. Beginning with Genesis and the Flood account, Down covers Biblical history from Noah to King David and onward to the life of Jesus of Nazareth, the King of Kings.

Few books in Christendom are wrapped around as brilliant a concept as this one. Within the pages of Who Needs A Superhero?, author H. Michael Brewer takes his love and knowledge of comic book superheroes and explores some key doctrines of the faith. Surprisingly, this book is neither fluff nor boring.

Through Superman, he gives us a modern re-telling of the ultimate superhero, Jesus, noting how Superman was only a rescuer , and only became a savior when he laid down his life for his people .

Evolutionary Fictions: On Plot Holes, Deus ex Machina and Other Crimes Against Fiction

Reblogged from Johnny Came Home:

Johnny Came Home is my upcoming superhero sci-fi novel set in the town of Midwich, West Virginia. God willing, I’m finally gonna release this bad boy Summer 2012.

Unwrapping the Pharaohs: How Egyptian Archaeology Confirms the Biblical Timeline by John Ashton & David Downs, Master Books (2006)

Egyptian chronology simply doesn’t confirm the Bible, but there is an excellent reason for this. Egyptian chronologies contain inflated lifespans for their god-kings and do not take into account Eusebius’ statement that “several Egyptian kings ruled at the same time… It was not a succession of kings occupying the throne one after the other, but several kings reigning at the same time in different regions” .

This isn’t your typical book review. I mean, how often do you get to field test a field guide to faith conversations?

But it so happened that the other day I was talking to a young man at college and without warning I was catapulted into the middle of a faith conversation. One second, we’re talking about his interests in re-enacting medieval warfare.

Tim Chaffey and Joe Westbrook return with the third installment of the Truth Chronicles, following the time-travelling adventures of four teens from Silicon Valley Prep, wonderfully illustrated by Inkhana.

Since I’ve likened the tone of Book 2 of this series to The Empire Strikes Back, it should come as little surprise that I compare Book 3 to Return of the Jedi…
